The Jura C3 is a compact Swiss super-automatic built for people who make their coffee black and maybe add milk or cream after. It grinds fresh for every cup and pours espresso and coffee, single or double, at one touch. There is no milk system, which is exactly the point: less to clean, less counter taken, and none of the cost of a feature you would never use.

Most bean-to-cup machines assume you want lattes. If you drink espresso and black coffee, that means paying for a milk system, finding room for it, and rinsing it out for the rest of its life. The C3 takes that department out and keeps the part that matters: a variable brewing unit dosing 5 to 16 grams and the Pulse Extraction Process Jura uses across its larger machines, in a body 10.7 inches wide.

Living with it

This is the easiest Jura to live with, for the simple reason that the milk system is the part that needs daily attention and this machine does not have one. Cleaning tablets and a Claris Smart water filter come in the box. Fit the filter and set your water hardness on day one, and scale stops being something you think about.

Daily, empty the drip tray and the grounds container. Then occasionally, run a cleaning tablet cycle when the machine asks for one and change the filter cartridge when it is due. That is the routine.

FAQs

• Can it make cappuccinos or lattes?
  No. The C3 has no milk system and no milk spout. The drink menu is espresso and coffee, singles and doubles. If milk drinks matter to you this is the wrong machine, and we would rather say so now than have you find out in your kitchen.
• What is the warranty in Canada, and who handles service?
  The C3 carries a 2 year warranty on parts and labour. Service is coordinated through Coffee Warehouse: email support@coffeewarehouse.ca or call us toll-free and we take it from there, rather than leaving you to chase a call centre.
• What size cups fit under it?
  The coffee spout adjusts from 80 to 110 mm, which covers espresso cups through standard coffee mugs. Tall travel mugs will not fit, so if you have a favourite one, bring it to the showroom and we will check it.
• Can I make decaf or use pre-ground coffee?
  Yes. The C3 has a ground coffee chute beside the bean container, so a decaf cup does not mean emptying out your beans. The bean container holds 200 grams.
• How much cleaning does it need?
  Less than most automatic machines, because there is no milk system. Empty the drip tray and grounds container regularly, run a cleaning tablet cycle when prompted, and keep a filter cartridge in the tank so descaling stays infrequent.
• Is it enough machine for two people?
  Yes for one or two people who drink espresso and coffee. It pours two cups at once from a 1.6 litre tank. It does not save user profiles, so each drink is chosen at the machine rather than recalled.
