Jura C9 Super Automatic Coffee Machine - Piano Black

The Jura C9 is a compact Swiss super-automatic that makes café milk drinks at one touch: cappuccino, flat white, latte macchiato, cortado and espresso macchiato, alongside espresso and coffee. It grinds fresh for every cup and froths through an integrated milk system, in a footprint 10.7 inches wide.

The flat white you like costs six dollars and a lineup. Making one at home has meant either a machine that takes half your counter or a steam wand and a learning curve. The C9 skips both. You choose it on the colour display, the machine grinds, brews and pours the milk, and it is small enough to live beside the kettle.

Living with it

Daily, clean the milk pipe and frother with a milk cleaning tablet, and empty the drip tray and grounds container. The machine prompts you and walks you through it. A few minutes a day, and the tablets cost little, but it is a real step worth knowing about before you buy. One note specific to this model: you fill the cleaning container twice through the cycle rather than once.

Then periodically, run a coffee cleaning tablet cycle when the machine asks. Those tablets come in the box. A water filter cartridge does not, and fitting one keeps descaling from becoming a regular chore, so test your water hardness early and set the machine to match.

FAQs

• What drinks can it make?
  Espresso and coffee, plus cappuccino, flat white, latte macchiato, cortado and espresso macchiato from the integrated milk system, and plain milk foam on its own. There is no hot water spout, so tea and Americanos are not on the menu. Two cups can be poured at once.
• Can I use oat or almond milk?
  The milk pipe draws from whatever container you set it in, including a carton of plant milk from the fridge. Results vary between brands more than with dairy, so bring your usual one to the showroom and we will run it through the machine.
• What is the warranty in Canada, and who handles service?

• How much cleaning does the milk system need?
  Once a day, the milk pipe and frother get cleaned with a milk cleaning tablet. The machine prompts and guides it, it takes a few minutes, and on this model you fill the cleaning container twice through the cycle. Coffee cleaning tablet cycles come around occasionally and those tablets are in the box.
• What size cups fit under it?
  The coffee spout adjusts from 75 to 115 mm, covering espresso cups, mugs and most latte glasses. Tall travel mugs are the exception, so bring yours to the showroom if that matters.
• Is it enough machine for two people?
  Yes for one or two drinkers. It pours two cups at once from a 1.6 litre tank with a 200 gram bean container. It does not save user profiles, so each drink is selected at the machine.
