The fourth-generation Jura E8 pours 17 drinks at the touch of a button, from espresso and Americano to cappuccino, flat white and latte macchiato. Living with it

Daily, clean the milk pipe and frother with a milk cleaning tablet, and empty the drip tray and grounds container. The E8 runs this as a one-touch cycle and prompts you when it is due. A few minutes a day at little cost, but it is a real step and worth knowing before you buy. Milk system cleaner tablets come in the box.

Then periodically, run a coffee cleaning tablet cycle when asked. A filter cartridge comes with the machine: fit it, test your water with the included strip and set the hardness on day one, and descaling stops being a regular event. The water container and waste container are dishwasher friendly.

FAQs

• What drinks can it make?
  Seventeen. Espresso and coffee with doubles of each, espresso doppio, Americano, lungo, cortado, espresso macchiato, cappuccino, flat white and latte macchiato with Extra Shot versions, a portion of milk foam on its own, and hot water.
• Can I adjust the grind for my own beans?
  Yes. The P.A.G.2 grinder has 7 settings on a selector switch, which matters if you buy from different roasters. Adjust it while the grinder is running, and give it a couple of cups to settle.
• How often does it need descaling?
  Less often than you would expect, provided you keep a filter cartridge in the tank and set the water hardness when you first use it. The machine tracks usage and tells you when descaling or a filter change is due.
• What is the warranty in Canada, and who handles service?
  The E8 carries a 2 year warranty on parts and labour. Service is coordinated through Coffee Warehouse: email support@coffeewarehouse.ca or call us toll-free and we take it from there, rather than leaving you to chase a call centre.
• Can I use oat or almond milk?
  The milk pipe draws from whatever container you set it in, including a carton of plant milk. Results vary between brands more than with dairy, so bring your usual one to the showroom and we will run it through the machine.
• What size cups and glasses fit?
  The coffee spout adjusts from 2.6 to 4.4 inches and the cappuccino spout from 4.2 to 6 inches, so tall latte glasses fit under the milk drinks. Very tall travel mugs are the exception.
